The Gaia hypothesis, proposed by English scientist James Lovelock, posits that all organisms and their inorganic surroundings on Earth are closely integrated to form a single and self-regulating complex system, maintaining the conditions for life on the planet.
As the long history of earth moves on, it seems that human beings living on the surface of earth have dominated the earth. We try to build a man-made eco-utopia, which ceaselessly produces all sorts of products to fulfill needs of all humanity. However, because of the unreachable dream of a great, romantic beautiful world, we get stuck in the utopia built by ourselves. Apparently, Gaia is not a goddess who favors a particular species. “Artificene” proposes a possibility and imagination for an artificial new world.
